Who am I?

A word about Curves… and the other gyms that would love for me to sell a kidney in order to get fit. Oops – was that out loud? Curves charges $99 for the summer – a “student rate” the receptionist told me. “A real bargain” she said. WHAT A LOAD OF TOSH! (Which PS, in “British”, my favorite accent, Tosh means CRAP.) I was feeling so desperate to be a part of a gym environment again while at Curves, I offered to work for free in exchange for it. Um...

Planet Fitness wants $10/month. Plus a $10 membership fee to start. In October, they charge a $29 annual fee (even though this is two months more than I need). If I cancel before then, it’s a $59 cancellation fee. This works out to $40 for May – August, and a total of $99 to include the cancellation fee. If I keep the membership until October, it's $60 for May - October, and a total of $89 to include the annual fee. Ew.

My school gym, which has my awesome, hardcore trainer, is free until the first week of June, since I was a student in the Spring. After that, it’s $25 per summer session. Translation: $50 for the rest of the summer.

In the end, my school gym ends up being the best. It’s probably good that it is free for now, since I’ll need to work to save those $50… Ugh. Who said real life (aka Bills) was going to be so much fun?

Good reputation or not – gym memberships put a serious dent in my finances!

  1. Amanda, I will send you the $50 when my next check comes in June. I'll do what ever I can to help and encourage you on your quest for health and fitness.
